An informative and engaging day, the National Construction Industry Conference took place on November 17 in Croke Park Conference Centre.

The full day seminar was hosted by Heat Merchants and featured several high profile speakers including Jeff House, Regulatory Marketing Manager, BAXI; Paul Cronin, Architectural Specialist, Ardex/BAL; Conor Taaffe, Managing Director, HomeBond Building Control; and Hubert Fitzpatrick, Director, Housing, Planning & Development, CIF.

A packed house ensured conversation and debate flowed throughout the day while the industry’s key topics were kept to the fore.
The importance of being ErP compliant and how ErP actually works was explained by BAXI’s Jeff House. Since September 2015, the Energy Related Products Directive (ErP) applies to all domestic and commercial heating and hot water products throughout Europe and so this proved a particularly interesting subject on the day.

The fundamentals of combined heat and power were covered by Will Johnson, Large Scale CHP Sales Manager, and Alex Parkinson, CHP Commercial Manager, Bosch Commercial. Typical projects, financial savings and legislative benefits were explored in full.
The practical implementation of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 was presented by Conor Taaffe, Managing Director at HomeBond Building Control while Philip Lee, Managing Partner and Founder of Philip Lee gave an interesting session on the regulatory environment. Philip discussed the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the requirement since July 2013 for new buildings and major renovations to meet national minimum energy performance requirements. ‘Problem solving with tiling solutions’ was the focus of Architectural Specialist, Paul Cronin’s presentation on the day, while the consequences of the new broadband related rules for the construction industry were set out by Edel Hartog, McCann Fitzgerald Solicitors.
Heat Merchants has been supplying heating and plumbing trade professionals with an extensive product range since 1978 and so is well placed to organise a national conference for the industry. A resounding success, the event was enjoyed by both delegates and exhibitors alike.
