The cottages were built using traditional construction methods to achieve a rustic country cottage effect. The exterior also saw sympathetic landscaping and planting to help integrate the new cottages into the natural surroundings.
However, the interiors of these one and two-bedroom cottages were fully serviced and fitted out to a very high spec. These turnkey cottages were finished throughout to a very exacting standard including the use of new technologies. Each cottage has been designed to be contemporary yet comfortable, boasting spacious open plan living areas, which include a fully equipped kitchen, lounge and dining space, perfect for modern day R&R.
The Newtownards company installed Vokera by Reillo natural gas boilers (Unica I and Vision models) supplied by Plumbmaster in all eleven cottages along with Myson décor radiators, from Stevenson & Reid and sanitaryware supplied by Beggs and Partners.
The Unica i is a high specification condensing combi boiler range. Advanced energy saving credentials define this product range, which boasts a class leading modulation ratio of 10:1, enabling the boiler to reduce its output in line with the demand in your home, reducing wasted energy.
Its advanced technology also allows the Unica i to connect to the Vokera OpenTherm control; not only giving you complete control over your heating and hot water requirements, but can save money on your fuel bills. As well as its advanced energy saving credentials, the Unica i provides exceptional hot water comfort.
The Vision is a feature rich Vokèra condensing combi boiler. This boiler has extremely compact dimensions and can fit neatly within most standard kitchen cupboards. It comes with a built-in seven-day digital clock, enabling you to have complete control over your heating and hot water timings. The Myson Decor range has played a leading role in the world of interior design over the past decade. It treats radiators as decorative items as well as heating devices and has become a much loved alternative to traditional mainstream radiators. With a range of sizes and tube designs available the MYSON DECOR range offers a variety of choice when it comes to choosing the right products for a project.
“This was a prestigious project for us to be involved it,” said Contracts Manager Trevor Boyle.
“These cottages will be full this summer with the Open taking place in Royal Portrush so it was nice for us to be involved in their successful completion.
“We went on-site last September/ October and our four-man team worked through until St Patrick’s Day to get the job completed on time. We have over 40 years’ experience in business and have an excellent working relationship with the main contractor on the Galgorm job, Hugh J. O’Boyle which has been built up over many years and we look forward to working with them again.”
With over 40 years under its belt, Stevenson & Reid was the ideal choice when it came to supplying the Galgorm Golf Cottages project with top quality heating systems. The brief to the plumber’s merchants specified Myson 4 column radiators, a high end product that fitted in perfectly with the project’s overall aesthetic. Thanks to an excellent, longstanding relationship with Hinds Heating & Plumbing, the company working on the project, the team at Stevenson & Reid met its brief and delivered the highest standards of customer service, as it does on every project it undertakes.
Stevenson & Reid has a number of branches around Northern Ireland, all committed to ensuring the customer leaves with the right product for the job. Boasting a diverse range of high quality products, the company supplies several sectors including commercial and residential.

Heatboss delivers savings whilst ensuring comfort. The innovative smart heating management system at the Galgorm Golf Cottages will save around 30% on heating bills whilst optimising guest comfort.
Installed by family-run business, Okotech Ltd from Antrim, the heatboss system gives both the hotel staff and guests the ability to set the temperatures and heating times in the individual cottages remotely. When the cottages are not occupied the hotel staff have the ability to switch the heat off remotely using the heatboss web application avoiding the cottages being heated when not in use.
When the cottages are occupied, guests can personalise the heating levels, from the heatboss thermostat.
The smart system uses algorithms which can recognise the thermal characteristics of a room/zone and turn the boiler off when it knows there is enough inertia to take the room/zone to the optimum temperature. It can also fully integrate with any building management system.
Gary O’Hagan, Technical Director said: “We carry out an initial site analysis and then set up the system before going on site, to minimise any disruption. The Galgorm Golf Cottage project went very smoothly and the staff have fully embraced heatboss, especially as they can now monitor and control the heating within the cottages from the comfort of reception.”
