Gas chat charity raffle to be held over Christmas

Winners of the annual Gas Chat raffle will be announced over the Christmas holidays.

Over 40 prizes are up for grabs this year, with all proceeds going to charity. Fundraising started on the 5th of October and so far, over €6200 has been raised.

Gas Chat Ireland, a Facebook page for gas installers to share best practice and promote safety standards, was set up by Mark Ryan and Phil Mahady. The popularity of Gas Chat Ireland has soared and it now has over 960 members and additional admins, Simon Calvey and Fred Poole. Leading manufacturers, merchants and training centres have also become involved, offering exclusive deals to members along with training days.

The Charity Raffle has become an integral part of the platform. “This came about when a generous supplier gave us a gas boiler to give to a deserving recipient. We struggled narrowing down a worthy destination for this amazing gesture, so we decided to raffle it off to one of our members. Other suppliers got involved and, before we knew it, we had thousands of euro worth of prizes to give away. A PayPal account was set up, and in our first year, we sold €4,600 worth of raffle tickets – every cent of which was split between three worthy charities, Crumlin Medical Research Foundation being one,” said Phil Mahady.
