Haslem Hotel, Lisburn Square

Great workmanship on display at Haslem Hotel...

Hanna Mechanical Services carried out the complete mechanical services for the new 45-bedroom Haslem Hotel in Lisburn Square, Lisburn. The package of works included plumbing, air conditioning and ventilation, new kitchen, restaurant and bar area as well as the building management system.

The conversion of the 26,000sq ft property into a hotel delivered Lisburn’s first city centre hotel and a fresh new meeting place for the local population.

The £4m hotel in Lisburn is part of the The Beannchor Group, which include The Merchant Hotel and Bullitt Hotel. Hanna Mechanical Services was contracted to work on the 80-seater open plan lobby and bar area, 68-seater restaurant, residents’ gym and conference room.

Incorporating all the services into the existing building proved to be a challenge, but one that Hanna Mechanical Services met with gusto. Glenn Coburn, Contracts Manager at Hanna Mechanical Services explains, “The building previously operated as a retail store which meant a lot of internal reconfiguration had to be undertaken to turn the building into a hotel. Also, the industrial-style design of the hotel interior specified that all services were to be left exposed, so we had to be extra neat and tidy. That meant that the co-ordination between us and all the other trades had to be precise.”

Established in 2003 by Gary Hanna, Hanna Mechanical Services are domestic, commercial and industrial mechanical building services specialists. Their highly qualified, experienced team of engineers know how to complete a job on time and on budget. That is what’s earned them the reputation for delivering work within tight contract programmes while also maintaining a high level of workmanship.

They strive to supply a fast, reliable service for all your mechanical building services needs, covering anything from domestic to commercial jobs right up to industrial jobs.

They have a fast-growing Maintenance Division, which looks after and maintains the mechanical services to an ever-increasing number of key clients within Northern Ireland’s financial, pharmaceutical, food, education, retail and care home industries.

They are proud to have successfully achieved accreditation for the migration from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001:2018 along with being re-certified for ISO 9001:2015, this gives a good indication of the type of company they are and the standard of work they carry out.

The Haslem Hotel’s ‘no fuss’ industrial style interior means that much of Hanna Mechanical Services work is on display to all hotel visitors, bar and restaurant diners. “I’m very proud of the work we carried out in close co-ordination with all the other contractors,” says Glenn. “We worked well as a team with Konstruct Interiors. They are very professional and efficient to work with. This is a quality installation and I’m delighted that so much of it’s on show to the public.”

Bassetts

Another successful hotel project for Bassetts’ commercial division…

Bassetts’ Commercial Sanitaryware division engaged its long-standing relationships with top sanitaryware manufacturers to ensure a smooth and timely supply of products to the Haslem Hotel project.

Converted from an existing retail building, the 45-bedroom Haslem Hotel is Lisburn’s first city centre hotel. Bassetts supplied the sanitaryware for all of the bedrooms and public areas.

Products had already been specified by the Consultant Engineer from Bassetts’ main sanitaryware manufacturers: Ideal Standard, Grohe, Aqualla and Flair and so Bassetts concentrated on ensuring stock was available when needed.

With 30 years of expertise obtained at Bassetts, Nigel Smyth, Commercial Sanitaryware Manager, provided the cool head and knowledge needed to ensure a seamless service.

“We worked out a time-scale programme with the mechanical contractor, Hanna Mechanical Services, and co-ordinated our supplies for when they were needed. There will always be a certain type of product that needs to be installed first, for example, shower trays. Shower doors, on the other hand, would be the finishing touches.

“We know what’s needed in the first fix, the second fix and the finishing touches. We liaise with the mechanical contractor to make sure that the products are available in his time frame.”
The project with Hanna Mechanical was supplied smoothly and on time. “It was a great project for Bassetts to be involved with,” says Nigel, “with a good mix of products from our suppliers.

“We’ve always enjoyed a very good working relationship with Hanna Mechanical. They’re very easy to work with.”

Whitehouse Engineering

HVAC experts, Whitehouse Engineering, carried out fabrication and installation of the ventilation and extraction system at Haslem Hotel. The package of works included general ventilation, kitchen extract ventilation including fire-rated ductwork.

Stephen Dawson MD, Whitehouse Engineering says, “Apart from manufacturing and installing the fire-rated ductwork this was a fairly standard project for us. However, as the ductwork for the ventilation system is exposed, we had to ensure the finished job was easy on the eye.”

Whitehouse Engineering has been operating for over 50 years, manufacturing and installing HVAC systems for industrial, commercial, retail, leisure, hospital and school projects across the island of Ireland.

The County Antrim company has the expertise and equipment including its own in-house CAD / CAM drawing office, incorporating the latest BIM software which enables it to carry out work on a wide variety of projects from general fabrication to stainless steel canopies, steel structures and sub-assemblies.

Stephen was full of praise for the close co-ordination on site managed by Hanna Mechanical. “We have worked with them on a few projects before and are currently involved with an installation on a hotel expansion project in Templepatrick.”

EB Gas Services Ltd

EB Gas Services Ltd installed a new gas line from the internal PNG meter to provide the Haslem Hotel with a gas supply, on behalf of Hanna Mechanical Services.

The new installation provided gas supplies to the kitchen, air handling units and plant room. These areas were provided with gas leak detection and kitchen interlock controls manufactured by Intelligas.

Eugene O’Callaghan, Sales and Installation Manager at EB Gas Services Ltd says, “This was a challenging installation and we worked closely with the Project Manager to co-ordinate with the other trades. The installed pipework was welded 100mm steel with various branches to other services.”

Established in 1966 as a domestic gas centre selling bottled gas and domestic gas appliances, EB Gas Services Ltd has developed into one of the largest gas service and installation companies in Ireland.

“This was a challenging installation and we worked closely with the Project Manager to co-ordinate with the other trades.”
