Setting up your own business would daunt most 21-year-olds, but not Eamon Doherty. The Derry City based technician formed EMD Boiler Services seven years ago and has never looked back.
At the grand old age of 29, Eamon has seen his business flourish and grow. His team of six fitters (including himself) are working flat out, seven days a week across the whole of Northern Ireland. “Not a bad achievement,” admits Eamon. Seeing a gap in the higher end of the market early on, Eamon focused his firm’s attention on serving the needs of a growing number of customers who demand better.
“We came across a lot of homeowners who want more detail put into their installations,” he explains. “They’re proud of their home and expect a quality finish. So when we put in a boiler, it has to be a stylish and pipeless installation. We ensure there is no pipework or electrics on show – especially on an outside boiler. Our customers want a stylish item sitting in their back garden, not a monstrosity.
“The aftercare from the Warmflow team, the styling of the boilers and the build quality are just on another level compared to what’s available elsewhere. The homeowner is spending a lot of money to get a new heating system in. If they’re spending that kind of money and not getting a good after service from the manufacturer, then that looks bad on our company. We’ll only recommend a company that is going to look after us with aftercare.
“Warmflow boilers have a seven-year warranty; they’re the only manufacturer that offers that. Their combi boilers are double A-rated; again they’re the only ones doing that. Warmflow is running at approximately 98% efficiency, depending on the boiler model. There is nothing we’ve found that will touch that at all.
“The new External Agentis Combi has changed the game for combis. The new model has a 24l expansion tank, which is on a hinge. You undo one bolt, slide it out and your pressure gauge is sitting in front of you, so is your PRV and the pressure reducing valve. Everything is nearly pre done for the installer, so there’s less for us to think about. Four pipes, wired in and job done.
