The technical services team at Heat Merchants is designing heating systems for new build and retrofit homes...

The Heat Merchants Technical Services Engineering team will design a heating system featuring a Panasonic Air to Water heat pump that will meet all building regulations and the standards specified by SEAI for both new builds and retrofit situations. This design will be covered by professional indemnity insurance, giving peace of mind to both installers and home-owners.

In order to complete a design, the team requires the XML file or the Part L section of the XML file together with the house plans, including elevations and cut sections. Using this information, the design team can determine if a heat pump alone can meet the obligations under Part L. This will also allow them to carry out a heat loss calculation and correctly size radiators and underfloor heating according to SR50-1:2000 Code of Practice for Building Services.

HEAT PUMPS IN RETROFIT PROJECTS
In retrofit projects, the XML file and plans or adequate sketches plus a listing of existing radiator size and types are required to enable the design engineers to complete a bespoke design for each property. The Heat Merchants Technical Design team can offer advice and guidance to installers throughout the process and in order to assist installers with the SEAI Better Energy Homes grant application process, they will complete all calculations and technical information on the designer/installer tab of the SEAI file for the grant application, which can in turn be signed off by the installer. This expertise provided by Heat Merchants will ensure the design meets the efficiencies required by SEAI and that the grant application is straightforward and as easy as possible for the installer.

INSTALLER TRAINING
Heat Merchants is offering installer training on the Panasonic range of heat pumps which is available free of charge in its Training Centre in Athlone.

ENERGY SAVING CREDITS
Installers can now claim energy saving credit up to €713 including VAT when they install an air to water heat pump into an existing dwelling by registering with the Heat Merchants ESC section and completing a simple claim form for each installation.
